A plain-English guide for 12th-pass, B.Com and CA Inter students deciding on ACCA: what the qualification is, all 13 papers, what it costs and what ACCA members actually do at work.
ACCA stands for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. It is a professional accounting body based in London, set up in 1904. It runs a global finance and accounting qualification, also called ACCA.
As of ACCA's 2025 annual report, there are about 247,000 qualified members and 526,000 students studying it across 180 countries.
When someone says "I am doing ACCA", they mean they are studying for that qualification. When someone says "I am an ACCA member", they have finished all of it and been admitted.
Three things. Exams alone are not enough — this trips up a lot of students.
Once you pass all the exams but have not finished PER, you are called an ACCA affiliate. Affiliates can work and are hired, but full members usually command better pay and senior roles.
The course has three levels.
| Level | Papers | Count |
| Applied Knowledge | BT (Business and Technology), MA (Management Accounting), FA (Financial Accounting) | 3 |
| Applied Skills | LW (Corporate and Business Law), PM (Performance Management), TX (Taxation), FR (Financial Reporting), AA (Audit and Assurance), FM (Financial Management) | 6 |
| Strategic Professional | SBL and SBR are compulsory. Then pick 2 of 4: AFM, APM, ATX, AAA | 4 |
SBL is Strategic Business Leader. SBR is Strategic Business Reporting. The four options are Advanced Financial Management, Advanced Performance Management, Advanced Taxation and Advanced Audit and Assurance.
You cannot get exemptions at Strategic Professional level. Everyone writes those four.
Job titles are one thing. Here is the actual work.
| Role | What you do day to day |
| Internal auditor | Test whether company processes are being followed, sample transactions, write findings, chase fixes |
| Financial reporting analyst | Prepare monthly and annual accounts under IFRS, handle consolidations, answer auditor queries |
| Management accountant | Build budgets, compare actuals against budget, explain variances to department heads |
| FP&A analyst | Forecast revenue and costs, build models, prepare numbers for management review meetings |
| Statutory audit associate (Big 4) | Work on client audits — vouching, testing controls, drafting workpapers |
| Risk and controls consultant | Document processes, test controls, help clients close gaps |
| Stage | Range (2026) |
| Fresher, general market | ₹4–8 LPA |
| Big 4 entry level | ₹5.5–9 LPA |
| GCC entry level | ₹8–12 LPA, some roles ₹12–18 LPA |
| GCC senior management | ₹35–55 LPA |
GCC means Global Capability Centre — the India office of a foreign company that handles its finance work. Companies that hire ACCA students and members regularly include Deloitte, EY, PwC, KPMG, Accenture, Genpact, Capgemini and HSBC.
An ACCA member cannot sign a statutory audit report in India. Under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, only an ICAI member with a Certificate of Practice can do that. The same applies to tax audits under Section 44AB.
So ACCA is not a replacement for CA if your plan is to open your own audit practice in India. It works well if your plan is a job — in a Big 4 firm, a GCC, an MNC or a large Indian corporate — or a career outside India.
Most students finish in 3 to 4 years. With exemptions it can be under 3.
| Cost item | 2026 figure |
| One-off registration | £30 (current fee) |
| Annual subscription | £140 |
| Applied Skills exam | £151 per paper (standard entry) |
| SBL exam | £268 (standard entry) |
| Total ACCA fees, no exemptions | About ₹3 lakh |
| Total including coaching | ₹3.7L–4.5L |
Fees are set in pounds, so your rupee cost moves with the exchange rate. Exemptions and learning-partner offers can bring the ACCA fee total down.
