For 12th-pass, B.Com, CA Inter and working students planning ACCA: realistic timelines by starting point, the exam rules that set your pace, and the dates that cause delays.
ACCA has 13 exams across three levels. Most students in India finish in 3 to 4 years, and with exemptions it can be under 3. If you are working full-time and start from scratch, plan for 4 to 5 years. If you are already a qualified CA, you can clear the exams in about 12 to 18 months.
That is the short answer. Here is the detail you need to actually plan your dates.
ACCA holds exams four times a year — March, June, September and December. Three papers do not even wait for a session.
So a failed paper costs you about three months, not six. That single fact is why ACCA timelines compress well when you stay consistent.
Three ACCA rules control how fast you can go. Know them before you build a plan.
| You are starting from | Exemptions you usually get | Papers left | Time to clear exams |
| Class 12 (Commerce) | 0 | 13 | 3–3.5 years |
| B.Com or BBA | 4–5 | 8–9 | 2–2.5 years |
| CA Inter (both groups) | 5–6 | 7–8 | 2–2.5 years |
| CA qualified (ICAI member) | 9 | 4 | 12–18 months |
| Working full-time, no exemptions | 0 | 13 | 4–5 years |
An exemption means ACCA lets you skip a paper because your earlier degree already covered it. You still pay a fee for it. Exemption counts are decided by ACCA, not by you or your college.
This is the schedule we build for a full-time student at Vidhyoday Global.
| Period | What you do | Papers cleared |
| Months 1–5 | BT, MA, FA on demand | 3 |
| Month 6 (Mar session) | LW + PM | 5 |
| Month 9 (Jun session) | TX + FR | 7 |
| Month 12 (Sep session) | AA + FM | 9 |
| Months 13–15 | EPSM module + start PER logging | 9 |
| Month 18 (Mar session) | SBL | 10 |
| Month 21 (Jun session) | SBR | 11 |
| Month 24 (Sep session) | Option paper 1 | 12 |
| Month 27 (Dec session) | Option paper 2 | 13 |
That is 27 months of exams with zero resits. Add one or two resits — which is normal — and you land around 3 years. Add the 36-month practical experience requirement, which runs in parallel, and full ACCA membership comes at roughly 3.5 years.
PER (Practical Experience Requirement). You need 36 months of relevant supervised work to become an ACCA member. It runs alongside your exams. If you work while studying, it costs you no extra time. If you study full-time and only start working after your last paper, membership gets pushed out by up to three years. You become an "affiliate" the day you clear all exams, and a "member" only after PER — which matters for what ACCA members actually do and the roles they get.
EPSM (Ethics and Professional Skills Module). An online module you complete at your own pace. Do it in a gap between sessions. It should add zero days to your plan.
ACCA is changing the qualification. June 2027 is the last sitting of the current Applied Skills and Strategic Professional exams. New exams start from July 2027, and the qualification drops from 13 exams to 11, with new levels and new paper codes.
What this means for you in practice:
Missing an entry deadline pushes you a full session. For the December 2026 sitting, standard entry closes 2 November 2026 at 23:59 GMT. Late entry closes 9 November — and costs roughly two and a half times more.
Set a reminder four weeks before every session. This is the most common avoidable delay we see.
Your timeline depends on your exemptions, and exemptions depend on your exact degree and marksheet. Get that wrong and you lose a session. If you register through a learning partner, you also save on the registration, exemption and first-year subscription fees. Around 3 to 3.5 years to clear all 13 exams if you study full-time and sit papers in every session. Students starting after Class 12 get no exemptions, so all 13 papers must be passed. Full ACCA membership also needs 36 months of work experience, which can run alongside your studies.
Only if you are a fully qualified CA (ICAI member). CAs get up to 9 exemptions and need to clear only the 4 Strategic Professional papers, which takes 12 to 18 months. For students starting after 12th, B.Com or CA Inter, one year is not realistic.
ACCA allows a maximum of 4 exams in one session and 8 unique exams in one calendar year. BT, MA and FA are on-demand exams and are booked separately at a computer-based exam centre.
There is no overall limit on Knowledge and Skills papers. But once you pass your first Strategic Professional paper, you must clear all remaining Strategic Professional papers within 7 years.
